DELUXE DOGGIE DOOLEYMay 09, 2007
By M. Taylor We ordered the Dooley and just got it installed. The only problem we had is that our ground dirt obsorbed the water too fast. I emailed the company and this is there response.
"With a pyramid in fast-draining soil, there are a couple of things to watch. They take five gallons of water 2 to 3 times a week minimum, depending on your drainage. They won't necessarily hold a level of water with a sandier soil, but you want to water often enough to be sure that the soil never dries out. If it drains in under an hour you will want to water it daily (five gallons once a day is sufficient). The digester powder is a tablespoon per dog, per week. Add the digester powder after you have added the water so that it doesn't drain out too quickly with the water. If you do find that you need to water the unit daily, you may want to throw in an extra tablespoon of digester powder a second day during the week. If you have city water, let it sit out in an open container a day ahead of time so that the chlorine can evaporate out. Chlorine will stop the enzymes from working properly. You can always try to add a thicker layer of soil at the bottom to try to slow down the drainage."
I just got there response today, so I will try there suggestion and see if it works.. Hope this helps with your decision to purchase.

A big disappointmentAug 04, 2006
By Ellen Morris The doggie dooley is NOT good for the sandy soil of New Jersey which percolates very quickly and the dooley needs to hold water and the "stuff the bacteria is working on" until it can seep into the ground, below. Sandy soil does not work like that and because of this, the dooley was just plain a waste of money, labor and time. The company should have given a warning. It also says that it should work for 4 dogs. Well, the size of the dogs should be considered. I have 3 labs and the dooley may work for 4 cocker spaniels.

The Soil is the KeyFeb 06, 2009

"bevvyboo"
I have had this product twice. The first time I had one I had really nice "dirt" that it was installed in. The unit was able to retain the water long enough to digest quickly. This was in Florida and even the HOT summer did not smell. I recently moved and decided to get another unit. This one has not worked at all and I would say it has to do with the soil. I now live in an area where the soil is very sandy and fine. I will fill up the water level and it is gone in less then an hour. Even the rainy season didn't help. The Doggie Dooley is now totally full of dog droppings and I can no longer use it. Also the "step-on" lid broke (a rivet popped) before I even finished the install. I have not been able to figure out any way for it to hold the water longer which would help.
