Our dog's new favorite toy!Jul 25, 2010 Our golden retriever absolutely loves this!
We bought it because we were on a road trip to the ocean and he loves to fetch in the water. He couldn't get enough of this ball! Here are some of the highlights:
-It whistles when thrown, which keeps his attention for hours.
-It is bright and easy to find even in low light.
-It floats, which provides endless fetching possibilities.
When I first bought it I doubted its toughness because the rubber feels very light and flexible, but it has held up extremely well. Our dog carries it with him everywhere and chomps on it regularly. I don't expect it to last forever or be indestructible, but when he finally wears it out I will be buying another in 3-pack form!
Cool when New, but they DO come apartJun 25, 2010 My German Shepherd Dog is a ball hog. Tennis balls have worn down her teeth so much, that I needed to find a ball that wouldn't further damage her teeth. I found these cool Planet Dog balls, and I love that they float when thrown into the water. They also whistle while flying through the air. Unfortunately, the yellow parts of the ball eventually fall off and though the core can still be played with, it's smaller and it doesn't whistle anymore. Plus it's so much lighter that they don't go as far. I've even tried epoxying the pieces back on, but it didn't last long and I worried about the toxicity of the epoxy I was using.
And, these are expensive at $10 per ball. I used to find them for $6.50 each, but that source recently raised their prices to $10 too. Maybe I can take my collection of de-nuded balls and send them to Planet Dog for a credit. I've got at least a dozen of them.
Tuff Tennis BallsFeb 02, 2010 Overall, these are a fun and clean alternative to tennis balls. The material is a little thinner than Orbee's other balls, which makes it softer in the mouth, and because there's no fuzz to soak up saliva, they are cleaner after play, though the slighty tacky material can collect floor debris that goes unnoticed on fuzzy tennis balls.
However, the yellow is actually a second layer of material adhered to a white ball, an aggressive chewer will peel one of these layers off because of the weak point the vent holes create. You'll be left with a half white ball, which is tough and can stand up to the aggressive chewer, but isn't the tennis ball look you bought.
A favorite toy
Favorite Dog ToyAug 03, 2009 Our Australian Sheppard loves these!! They are his favorite toy. Out of his toy bin this is the first thing he'll pick and want to go play fetch.
I love that they are minty and retain their fresh smell. We've had them several months, used them tons, and they still smell great.
They're also very durable. They seem practically new still after a few months of use. Because of the material they don't get gross and dirty like a tennis ball and are easily washable.
They float in water which is great for tossing the ball in the lake on those hot days.
Other dogs love them too. At the dog park they often end up being a shared toy and several owners have asked where to get them. Amazon of course! :)

not strong enoughJun 22, 2009 i bought these balls for my 7 month scottie thinking he would not be able to destory these balls.....wrong!!.....he went through all three balls in a weeks time. i would definitely "not" recommend these balls to any heavy chewer....the balls will be history before you know it.
p.s. the reason these balls don't last is because the yellow part of the ball is another piece of rubber glued on top the actually rubber ball. the glue is not strong enough to keep it in tact.
